June 2025 Newsletter

A Message from Nortera

Pea planting is looking to wrap up this week for all regions. We expect to see full bloom over the weekend with harvest forecasted for around June 16.

Sweet corn planting continues very slowly with the lack of heat and sun. First corn is emerged but like most emerged crops, would appreciate some warm sun.

Tecumseh bean planting is slowly progressing, and Strathroy bean planting will commence after the next rain system.

Agricorp Production Insurance Reminders

As the season progresses, please remember that it is the grower's responsibility to immediately report any crop damage or an unharvested crop left in the field, by calling Agricorp. An adjuster may contact you for more information or to schedule an inspection of the damaged crops. Do not abandon, destroy, replant, harvest or use damaged acreage for another purpose without Agricorp's consent.

Agricorp can be reached at 1-888-247-4999. Please have your name and Agricorp ID ready when calling. If you need more information on production insurance, you can find it at http://www.agricorp.com.

AgriStability Extension

The federal and provincial governments have pushed the deadline to sign up for AgriStability coverage for 2025. Whether you're already enrolled or thinking about joining, you’ve now got until July 31, 2025.

This extra time gives you a chance to take a good look at your farm’s situation and decide if AgriStability is the right fit to help you handle any ups and downs that might come your way. If your margin drops below 70% of your normal, the program kicks in to help cover the gap.

See more details and find the New Participant Form HERE.

New Tax-Aligned Reference Margin Option for 2025:

The federal and provincial governments have rolled out a tax-aligned reference margin option for AgriStability. It lines up your AgriStability information with how you already do your farm taxes, whether that’s cash or accrual.

Here’s why it might be worth a look:

  • Agricorp can use your tax information to provide an early estimate of your reference margin, offering greater predictability when it comes to AgriStability payments.
  • Less paperwork if you don’t need to make a claim. If the early estimate shows you’re probably not in line for a payment, you can skip the claim forms altogether, saving you time, effort, and maybe some accountant fees.
