Jema Fails to Pay Growers - Licence Revoked
The revocation resulted from the failure by Jema to comply with the terms of an Agreement reached on the date of their licensing hearing in Guelph and incorporated into the Farm Products Marketing Commission Order made at that time. Specifically, the Commission ordered Jema to pay $363,977 plus reasonable interest to the board by no later than May 15. This sum represented the amount outstanding for the 2011 crop of tomatoes, the bulk of which is owed to 4 Leamington growers. The Commission also ordered that Jema provide the first of two $250,000 letters of credit for 2012 operations by May 18. When Jema failed to meet both of these conditions, the board requested that Jema’s licence be revoked. To view the Revocation Order made by FPMC click here.
